How much does a quietrevolution a vertical wind turbine?
We would like to install some type of vertical mill in our college and we need more information about the exact initial and operating costs and how much we would save if we put them in buildings around campus.
Vertical wind generators are the "bad boys, no matter how they do. There is a recently published book that you should read called" Home Brew wind, and you can get it here http://www.otherpower.com. You can also find a good review in http://www.rebelwolf.com/images/review.pdf was about to write a comment on my website – but found to this question and thought I could save a lot of pain. The book's title is perhaps a little misleading, since it goes beyond what one considers "home brew". These people have excellent engineering skills and his work is the state of the art. These guys are serious – working through the technical design considerations and physical (including discussions of the vertical axis units) leading to the designs that actually work and even go into detail on the design of the creation of the alternator from scratch. There are also links to a vast amount of material reference. You mention in buildings or on campus. Note that the generator should be 30 feet above the buildings and the tallest trees to get decent power. Start by erecting a wind instrument recording in one of its communications towers (not Zapped) and find out how much wind they actually have. Then calculate the capacity theoretical maximum using the equations in the book and find the answers.
