Has anyone built their own wind turbine / generator?
I just need to verify my information, so if you know what you're speaking, I would appreciate your opinion. I'm riding blades on a Baldor motor magnet permananent rescued an old treadmill. The motor cables run with a set of deep cycle batteries and keep them charged. Cables to the batteries run an inverter motor to change the 12V DC power into 110 electrical household, and from there to my shop where you can feed my tools. First, is that all right? And Secondly, I've been told I need a diode in a place so that the batteries do not run the engine rather than vice versa. How does one wire a diode, and what kind of diode do I need?
Things are a little more complicated than you planned. A diode is like a one way valve for electricity. You will need a score for the voltage and current that you expect. The voltage generated will be determined by the speed at which the generator turns. – Unless you regulate it, may damage the battery, or not charge at all. (You want to charge the battery of between 12.8 and 14V., neither more nor less.) You would be better to use a car alternator excited by the battery that is built through in voltage regulator.
