What type of bearings for use in a Savonius wind turbine?
Hello everyone I'm building a Savonius wind turbine that will be around half a meter high. He developed the master plan but just need some answers about the type of bearing to use – I really have no idea about different bearings and lubricants / Size restrictions, etc. I really appreciate any help you could provide. Thank you!
Basically, you need a stop somewhere in the process of taking the weight and one or two bearings to take the wind and keep it upright. If mounted above the generator, which could have a bearing thrust in the generator. In its design, you have to provide for mounting bearings. Lets suppose you're putting the unit into a shaft with a pulley at the bottom to drive a pump or a hand generator through a belt. He would go to www.grainger com or local bearing company and tell them you want a ball assembly plan for shaft diameter – that would support high – and you wanted a flat thrust bearing assembly to the bottom, and a shaft collar to match all with the shaft. For their project they could total $ 15-20. The easiest way would be a rectangle can be mounted rigid frame that is mounted on ball bearing in the center of the top and the thrust bearing at the bottom. What the collar of the screw shaft is the shaft and the rest against the pad, weight transfer. Since I proposed a pulley, the shaft should be long enough to pass through the frame to put under the pulley, so I had to take the unit apart to change the belt. To be honest, most of the ball bearings, but do not push, will far outweigh its turbine and probably could get the collar of the shaft and two bearings in a hardware store or home center where they are sold as parts truck and wagon wheels for another viewpoint http://www.macarthurmusic.com/johnkwilson/MakingasimpleSavoniuswindturbine.htm
