Solar Energy Systems and DIY?
I would build some solar panels for my house, and I have the instructions for it. However, I live in New York, which means we have the snow and ice. Because of this I question the use of glass, or at least standard glass, which could be more inclined to break or chip. Alternatives that work well? I also learned that an anti-reflective coating glass "increase the efficiency of panels, but can not find anything I can do this unless so expensive "glass" (which kind of defeats the purpose of making the panels myself.) Any advice?
You can use double strength glass, which is, as its name implies, double the strength of standard glass. The other option is use a tempered glass that increases the cost considerably. As for buying pure "white" glass, you'll find beyond a reasonable cost. Here is a list of manufacturers and distributors of anti reflective coatings, a short read, it seems that this can not be a do-it-yourself project. Good luck!
