What is the best way to charge batteries boat at sea?

I recently bought a 47-foot sailboat 93. The ship has a windmill and a battery that can provide without batteries 350Ah ca emergency. The windmill is not enough to power the batteries so I was thinking of the panels solar too. And an increase in battery power. I want to use a refrigerator box and 2-3 laptops for 2-3 hours each day. with some lights, etc. Does anyone know how much battery power and the burden I need, then? What type of battery is best for this use? What type of energy solar panels can deliver so much power? I guess a laptop uses about 90W. The rest of the team i have no idea about.

If you have a battery bank house 350 A / hr capacity you can safely use the 50% that it is fully charged. If the batteries are the type of industrial drive, or possibly AGM (absorbent glass matt) building so it can tow as much as 80 or even 90%, with little damage. Lead acid – deep cycle type can not be given high above 50% DOD (depth of discharge) without permanent damage, the ability to reduce each time you have been overexploited to within a few dozen of cycles that are not capable of even a fraction of the original capacity. If the wind generator is unable to meet its energy needs, then you have to replace with a larger turbine production, or use the main engine – or a charging unit for the batteries directly to a state of load at least once a day. The Solar panels are useful if no shadow, indirect light, even amorphous type panels reduces production to negligible levels, but even then you can not expect more four hours per day on average anywhere near the rated output of the group – and bastard all cloudy and rainy. The solar panels work best in situations totally without shade, facing the sun and a monitoring framework to track the sun from early morning till late – otherwise the investment is very high for a charger very small and unreliable. Without knowing the brand and the capacity of the turbine that are not really an opinion on that – not 300W turbine output is not sufficient to provide the battery house – while the total production of 300 Watts at 12V, 25 Amp constant say it will take at least that level 20 hours to fully charge your battery home developed assuming no other in the system. If you are running a lot of things – fridge / freezer, sounder, GPS plotter, radar, radios, fluorescent light, equipment, pumps, TV, inverter, mobile phone charger, etc. autopilot find that has to run the main engine or engine load, at least one couple of hours each day to keep up with it. His only other option is to reduce its energy needs through the use of LED lighting (one tenth of the draw energy), minimizing the use of all electronic equipment and specifying inexpensive fridge and so on. The simple fact is that there are plenty ways to improve the situation – but it takes a lot of self-education and discipline. I can not give any certificate 4 in renewable energy technology into six easy, one basic rule is that the batteries can not combine different types – so if you select the type of gel quality industrial batteries (best value in the long run) for the house – the same type of battery should be used everywhere. House, starting and reserve. The capacity may be different, but not the type. Internal resistance is too different, trying to load multiple types at once will result in severe damage to the system of one or all types, and possibly the entire load. You will learn the power requirements of your team – or can not design a system to adapt to it. I enclose a couple of links below, and also you can find at least one copy of 'Miner Brotherton The 12 Volt Bible for Boats' before going too far. Use only VSR (voltage sensitive relay) and designing a series of battery connections that maintain at least a separate starting battery drain from the house to start the main engine and some power to operate the pumps and critical equipment. This is not a difficult task, but rather a specialized craft, so you have to get your head around facts rather than turning to advertising when it comes to real practical experience. This is what I discovered – it is very do-able. I took my family to a distance of 100 acres to live for two years without power or anything else – it was interesting to get my teenagers to meet up. of 5kW/day. On a boat about to 1 – 2.5kW/day power. Sometimes much less. The average family needs 22kW/days Australian city at least, for comparison. Good luck.

In the young 21st Century, two realizations are dawning on the world’s population: we are hopelessly dependent on petroleum, which is only going to get more expensive; and global warming, caused mainly by our burning of fossil fuels, will impact civilization in ways that we’re only beginning to grasp. Stepping in to fight both of these massive problems are the rapidly evolving technologies that ha…
