Is it possible for a solar-powered car to exist?
I was looking at a solar calculator that was the other day and wondered why cannot you have a car that is solar power. I know that because solar energy is obviously has to come from the sun, so I thought why why not just put the car where it is always sunny. solar panels could go on the roof.
No. At least not without a major break through. A car, even with solar panels on the roof, hood and trunk do not have a sufficient area to get enough sunlight to power the car. Solar groups that are not efficient, and work best in direct sunlight and in most places it's only for a couple of hours each day (10-2). And you may need to keep the panels clean, and cars get dirty quickly. and replace frequently. And there is the problem of the battery. The car will need a huge battery, which was very heavy. The beaver and the car, plus the energy needed to move the car. And a car is just heavy, as it needs to stay on the road and not fly off the ground. And a battery loses their power at night, let alone in the cold, so it is likely that the car would not start in the morning.
