I have a small RV, 17 feet by 8.5 feet, some nights you have to run the electric heater for a few hours.?
I have 6 batteries marine deep cycle permanently connected to a 120-watt solar panel with charge controller and inverter. I do not have much running on this system than lighting And thats a few LED lights. I also have a PC that i use for a few hours to several days, and a small flat screen TV used for 1-2 hours a day. Some nights, I know I have to run my little electric heater to warm only when I sleep or stay asleep. I will not let more than 4 hours at a time of mainly at night. I've noticed that my batteries recharge very fast and do not think it would completely drain the heater if the use responsibly. What types may suggest, I am anxious to get to burn more propane, since it already has a propane stove. I realized you need a propane tank 1 pounds every 3-4 hours to run a propane heater thats not a cheap option. Can anyone pls share some knowledge.
OK, you have to do a little Math. A) How big is the heater – how many watts does it take? The typical plug-in electric heater consumes 1,500 watts and 750 watts on high low. B) What is the battery capacity? The typical small marine battery has a capacity of 115AH – 115 amps will be conducted at 12 volts for an hour. This is 1380 watts. C) Assuming no investor losses, an efficiency of 100% of the battery and a full load, has the capacity to produce 8280 watts for one hour. Divide 8280 by 1500 and can run your heater for 5.5 hours at full output and nearly 10 hours on low output. In fact, the system will run at approximately 80% efficiency since there are losses of the inverter and batteries are never fully charged. You also have other appliances that run from them. Thus, 4 hours will almost flat at that rate. However, if the batteries are heavier than 115AH units get more time away from them. Smaller least. I suggest you limiter get a shock if it does not. Our van VW has a two-battery system that cuts at 50% discharge and requires a replacement to switch to a marine drum solo that will run flat if necessary. The idea is that the vehicle will start in the morning. A link to the unit is below – is appropriate for its application can not be determined. You can get an adapter and connect the heater to a big tank – something equivalent to a gas grill tank or larger which reduces operating cost. But not without propane heater designed for a confined space should be used inside your RV by carbon monoxide. At least invest in a detector CO * and * a propane gas detector you are using a type camping heater inside. Propane is heavier than air and fill your truck, if there is an escape – with the potential for a very big KA-BOOM. Good luck with it, and be careful. Around here, propane runs about $ 3.25/gallon in small lots – comes to a little more four pounds per U.S. gallon. If you use a limiter and set the central thermostat at say, 50F, you should be fine for sleeping. Our camper has a propane gas furnace Condensation that has less than half-a-pound per hour to operate at full production, but then inside is relatively small and not very good for us.
