A solar dehydrator is a great tool to place on your network off the farm or garden. When you harvest a bumper crop this tool will give you a good choice for long term storage. It is simple to build and very useful. That's how I built one.

Of course you can buy all new materials, but this is a great project to use recycled materials. The first thing to find is a large piece of glass. A sliding patio door used or shower works very well. Once you have the dimensions of the glass can start building.

To maximize solar gain in your dehydrator, build the body of your dehydrator facing south. A cabinet should be built wide enough to hold several shelves and to support the glass. The glass should be fixed at an angle of more or less degree of the latitude where you live.
